August/September 2017:
Our first news article on our new and improved website! We’ve had a busy few months at Cook and Harris behind the scenes attempting to continually improve who we are and what we do. Here are just a few of the developments over August and September.
New Apprentices:
Cook and Harris are pleased to be able welcome four new plumbing apprentices to the company. Taking advantage of the new funding which opens out apprenticeships to people of all ages we have been able to give opportunities for some young men to change their career path or gather recognised qualifications following on from prior experience in the industry.
Rory, Simeon, Keiron and Ellis, welcome to the company. I hope you enjoy your time with us and go on to have great careers in the industry.
Completed Projects:
We’ve successfully completed a number of demanding summer contracts for Kitto Construction, Clifton College and Ferson Ltd.
We completed the refurbishment of Wiseman’s boarding house for Kitto Construction during the summer holidays. This was a fast paced and demanding project which required a complete overhaul of boarding accommodation for 37 students, including communal spaces, kitchens, bathrooms and study areas. As usual Kitto Construction delivered on their “On budget, on time and defect free” mantra. We are happy to continue to be part of their team delivering this project after project.
At Clifton College we have replaced the LTHW boiler plant to the east wing of the main Clifton College building. Working in the basement between the crypt and the armoury our team have removed the existing sectional cast iron boilers, installed three new condensing Broag Quinta 115kW boilers and converted the heating system to a sealed system. We advised the college that the system should be separated from their new plant by way of a plate heat exchanger – much of the existing pipework is cast iron with caulked joints – ensuring the new plant is effectively protected. With modern pumps, ancillaries and controls the college should now have a system to last well into the future
Matthew Parkes, our small works manager, took on a project for Ferson Ltd at Bath College. The project developed into quite the summer project with over 20 workshop style classrooms created and refurbished, a new gym and the decommissioning of an existing block. Cook and Harris carried out the alterations to the domestic services, heating and drainage as and where required to facilitate this project.
Looking ahead….
Following a moderate six months we have and are securing plenty of contracts for 2018. We look to be ramping up over Q4 2017 and can look forward to a very busy, productive and successful year.
We endeavour to keep to our core values of integrity, quality and collaboration as we help our clients with their plumbing and heating needs.
